The Foreshore has plenty to offer, so it’s a great place to start. Try the Brewery, for great beer, food & entertainment or the Nor East Restaurant for one of Newcastle’s best meals. Just along the wharf, we have Blue Water Pizza, gourmet wood-fired pizza, next to it the Starfish Cafe, and another short walk is the famous Scratchleys Restaurant. Further along are some great new restaurants, the Becton Apartments and the Crown Plaza Hotel. If you keep walking (15-20 min), you end up at the Marina, where you can buy some great seafood at the local co-op.
What about Darby Street for a feed and some culture. It’s the place to hang and watch the crowd go by. So many restaurants to choose from – try Longbench, Goldbergs, The Bistro, The Mortar & Pestle, or if it’s pub food you are hanging out for, The Delany Hotel is the go.
Darby Street also boasts the latest fashion boutiques and a couple of legendary surf shops. Check out Pacific Dreams. Second hand boards are available at both. M.R.(Mark Richards) is located down the west end of Hunter Street, so it might be worth checking out as well.
